How to make your own battery



Batteries are a reliable power source, but if you have a pinch and do not have access to one or just want to create your own for fun, you can easily create one of fairly common household materials. [19659002] Method one: Salt water

Step 1 – Fill a plastic cup with water

Fill a plastic cup three quarters of the way full with tap water. The cup for this need not be plastic, but it must be non-metallic. A paper or foam cup also works.

Step 2 – Add salt

Add a tablespoon of salt to the water and stir well.

You need two metal strips in different types of metal. They can be any of the following: zinc, aluminum or copper. Place a strip on each side of the cup. The bottom of each strip should touch the salt water. Fold the other end of each strip slightly over the edge.

Step 4 – Attach wire leads

Attach a wire to one of the metal strips using an alligator clip. Attach another wire to the other strip, even with an alligator clip. In this step, do not allow the alligator clamps to touch the water.

Step 5 – Test the battery

Connect the other ends of the wires to a voltage meter. This allows you to test the strength of the battery. It should be about three quarters of a volt.

Method two: Soda Powered

Step 1 – Fill a plastic cup with soda

Use a plastic or other non-metallic cup and fill it with soda from a jar until it is about three – blocks for the road full.

Step 2 – Empty the jar

Discard the excess soda in the sink or drink it so that the jar is completely empty.

Step 3 – Cut a strip of aluminum

Cut out a strip of aluminum made of soft drink that is three quarters or one inch wide. It should be slightly longer than the height of the cup. Keep in mind that aluminum foil is not a suitable replacement for this strip, so don't put it out for it.

Step 4 – Grinding the aluminum

Grinding off the coating on the sides of the aluminum strip at this point.

Step 5 – Place the strips

Place the aluminum strip as well as a copper strip in the purse across each other in the cup. Each strip should touch the soda water and should hang over the edge. Do not allow the strips to move.

Step 6 – Attach wire leads

Attach one wire to the aluminum strip and another to the copper strip. Each one should be connected with an alligator clip. Do not allow the alligator clamps to touch the soda.

Step 7 – Test the battery

Attach the wiring from each strip to a voltage meter. The meter is likely to say that the battery's strength is three quarters of a volt.

Method three: Hand-powered battery

Step 1 – Place the plates

Place an aluminum and copper plate on a piece of wood next to each other. If you do not have a piece of wood easily accessible, another non-metallic surface will work instead. For example, plastic.

Use alligator clips to each of the sheets and connect them to a voltage meter.

Step 3 – Place your hands on the plate

With the plates still attached to the voltage reader, place your hands down flat on each plate. The sweat on your hands will react with the metal to produce a reading on the voltage reader. If the reader shows nothing, turn your connections with the plates and cables.
