How to make Lychee Tea



Give your iced tea a refreshing update by adding litchies! These small fragrant fruits are packed in syrup, which you use to sweeten chilled black tea. The lychees give the teen sweet, fruity, floral notes. If you like your litchi tea less sweet, make litchi tea lemonade by combining iced tea with litchi syrup and juice.   1. Bring a kettle to a boil. Fill a kettle with water and turn it on or pour water into a kettle and put it on the stove. Turn the burner to high so that the water starts to boil.[1]

    • If you do not have a kettle, pour the water into a saucepan on the stove and bring it to a boil.
  2. Step 2 bags of black tea in water for 3 to 5 minutes. Place the tea bags in a small teapot or a heat-tight measuring jug. Slowly pour the boiling water over the tea and let them steep for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.[2]
    • You can substitute decaffeinated black tea if you prefer.
  3. Remove the tea bags and cool the tea until it is cold. Pour out the two tea bags and discard them. Then transfer the teapot or measuring jug to the refrigerator. Leave black tea in the fridge until it is cold.[3]
    • If you make a single serving, the tea should be cold within 10 minutes.
  4. Slice 4 lychees in half or in strips. Take 4 lychee products out of the jar and place them on a cutting board. If you like large pieces of fruit in your tea, cut each fruit in half. If you prefer smaller pieces of lychee, cut each fruit into narrow strips.[4]

  7. Heat equal parts sugar and water if you want sweet tea with simple syrup. If the lychee syrup does not add as much sweetness as you want, put 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar in a small pan.   1. Put 4 tea bags or (8 g) loose tea in a jug. Take out a jug that contains the least liquid and put the tea bags in it. If you prefer to use loose leaf tea, put the tea directly in the jug.[8]

  2. Pour cold water into the jug. Use cold water instead of boiling water to prevent the tea from developing a bitter taste when brewed. If you do not like the taste of your tap water, use bottled water.[9]
    • You can tie the tea bag strings to the handle of the jug if you do not want them to be soaked with tea.
  3. Cover the jug and refrigerate the tea for 4 to 5 hours. Place plastic wrap over the top of the jug to seal it and place it in the fridge. Cool the tea so that the water gets the taste of the tea. If you used tea bags, remove the jug after 4 hours. If you used loose leaves, let it infuse for a total of 5 hours.[10]
    • The tea becomes stronger and more flavorful the longer it infuses.
  4. Remove the tea bags or pour loose-leaf tea through a strainer. Taste the tea to determine if it is as strong as you want. If so, take the tea bags out of the jug. If you put in loose leaf tea, place a fine mesh filter over another clean jug and slowly pour the tea through it.[11]
    • Discard the used tea bags or tea leaves.
    • Cover the jug and refrigerate the chicken tea for up to 4 days.
  5. Pour the cold lychee tea into a serving glass with ice and garnish it with mint. When you are ready to serve the tea, fill a tall glass with ice. Slowly pour the chilled tea into the glass and fill it with a sprig of mint.[12]

    • You may have remnants of lychee syrup. Set aside to make tea lemonade sweeter.
  4. Stir the drink and refrigerate it for at least 1 hour. Gently stir in tea, syrup and lemonade with a long spoon until combined. You can taste the tea lemonade and stir in extra lychee syrup if you want it to be sweeter. Then put the jug in the fridge and refrigerate it for at least 1 hour so the flavors are combined.[15]
    • If you use sparkling juice, stir very slowly so that the juice does not lose its carbon dioxide.
  5. Fill serving glasses with ice, tea salad and whole lychees. When you are ready to serve the drinks, fill 4 serving glasses with ice. Take the jug out of the fridge and pour the litchi tea lemonade into each glass. Then place 3 whole litchis in each serving glass.[16]
    • Chilled leftovers of litchi tea lemonade in the fridge for up to 5 days.

  • Buy canned lychees from Asian markets or online.
