How to make haircuts

Hair clips are fun and funky accessories that can spice up any outfit. Hair clips from the store can be expensive, and they may not have exactly what you want. Fortunately, you can get some supplies to make your haircuts just the way you want them. Match your hair clips to your outfit to show them to your friends and family.

[[[[Edit]Step

[[[[Edit]Add studs or jewels to a barrette

  1. Pick out some studs or fake jewels to use as decoration. If you have some ordinary metal barrettes that you want to jazz up, go to the craft store and pick out some big fake jewels, some studs or some rhinestones. You can use large ones to fill your barrette completely or take a few small ones for a more subtle decoration.[1]

    • Try to find big gold buds for a trendy show barrette.
    • Take some earth-toned jewels for a more toned look.
    • Use small beads on a gold barrette for an expensive piece of hair.
    • Cut off the stems of some fake flowers to create a floral barrette.
  2. Add a dot of hot glue to the top of your barrette. Turn on your hot glue chair and wait for it to heat up. Start on one side of your barrette, dipping a pea size with hot glue on top of it. Try to keep the glue neatly and on top of the needle so that it does not drip down the sides.[2]
    • Be careful when using hot glue! It is super hot and can burn you if you touch it before it is dry.
  3. Hold the needle or jewel against the glue for about 10 seconds. Pick up the decoration you want to add and press it against the point with hot glue. Hold it there to let the glue dry for a few seconds and then remove your hand.[3]
    • Hot glue dries almost immediately, making it perfect for quick craftsmanship.
  4. Continue adding decorations until the entire barrette is covered. You can hold on to a large jewel at the end of your barrette, or you can continue walking along the line until your entire barrette is an accessory that is dazzling. Use your hot glue chair to attach more decorations until you are happy with it.[4]
    • You can also hot glued feathers on your barrette to jazz up the rhinestones or studs.
    • Pick out some gems for a fun alternative to fake jewels.
    • Try mixing and matching the colors of your jewels for a fun statement piece.

[[[[Edit]Decorate with Washi Tape

  1. Choose a clip with a smooth top. Washi tape adheres best to surfaces that are completely smooth. Take some flat clamps, such as alligator clips, that have no holes or openings in the top.[5]

    • The Washi strap works best on thin, small clips, as the strap is not super wide.
  2. Cut a strip of Washi tape approximately longer than the clip. You can choose which pattern you want! Hold the tape next to the clip and try to cut it a little longer than the entire length of the clip to give yourself some space.[6]
    • Washi ribbons have lots of patterns to choose from, such as strips, dots and flowers.
  3. Stick the Washi tape on top of the clip. Hold the tape over the top of the clip on a flat surface. Carefully stick the tape on top of the tip and use your fingers to smooth out any bumps or creases. It’s okay if the band sticks out a bit.[7]
  4. Cut off excess tape with scissors. Because the Washi strap is slightly wider than the clip, you may have some sticky spots hanging off the edge. Use scissors to get rid of any bands that do not fit on the clip.[8]
    • Make sure there are no sticky areas on the clip so that the tape does not stick to the hair.

[[[[Edit]To make a bow

  1. Cut a rectangle of fabric. You can choose the type of fabric you want to use for your bow. Use a ruler to measure out a rectangle for the main body of the frame, then use scissors to carefully cut it out.[9]

    • Try using a floral pattern for a sweet spring time.
    • Take some polka dot or striped fabric for a versatile bow.
  2. Cut another rectangle of the same fabric. The thin strip enters the middle of the frame. Use a ruler to measure out a second rectangle and then cut it out with scissors.[10]
Make haircuts Step 10 version 2.jpg
    • You can use the same fabric for a cohesive bow, or you can use a statement piece of fabric with a different pattern on it.
  3. Fold the large rectangle in half and then glue in the halves. Turn the fabric so that the wrong side is facing you, then fold one side up so that it hits the center of the rectangle. Fold the other side down until it overlaps the first fold only slightly, then use hot glue to hold them together.[11]
    • You do not have to be exact about your folds because you paste them down with glue.
  4. Fold the ends of the fabric to the width and then glue them together. Hold the rectangle in the same position, grab the right and left sides of the fabric and fold them both towards the middle until they touch. Use hot glue to attach them to each other so that they stay.[12]
    • This will create a loose arc shape without any of the ruffles or curves.
  5. Wrap the small strip around the center of the frame and then glue it. Take your smaller rectangle of fabric and wrap it around the center of your large rectangle. Pull it tight to make the center of the arch fold and get a curved arch shape. Use hot glue to hold the fabric in place at the back of the hoop.[13]

    • Use your fingers to fluff the fabric in the middle if you need to before gluing it down. The bow should look into the center, like a fly.
  6. Glue the bow on a barrette. Take a large clamp or barrette and add a pea-sized hot glue in the middle. Rich the frame along the length of the clamp so that it covers the whole thing. Press the hoop on the glue and hold it for about 10 seconds to allow it to attach.[14]
