For many Americans, the flag is a powerful symbol of honor, courage and sacrifice. If you want to display an American flag inside or outside your home, there is a set of minutes that you can follow with respect. The flag label is designed to ensure that starts and stripes are always treated with dignity, to honor those who gave their lives for their country and its ideals.
Whether you have a flagpole or the flag is stationed outside your house, the rules for flying Old Glory (which the flag is sometimes called) are the same. Precedent state that the flag should only be shown from sunrise to sunset ̵
Some individuals may want to display their flag outside night and day, whether they are stationary or on a home flagpole. This is allowed if the flag is lit all night and remains lit until the sun rises in the morning. You can install your own flagpole lamp or pay a local spaceman to install it for you.
If you want to display more than one flag on your post, the American flag should always fly above any other flag.
It is sometimes respectful to fly the flag to half staff. Flying the flag to half staff is a sign of solidarity and solemnity and should not be made easy. You can join an official newsletter that sends half of the staff updates, but you should also know the days of the year when the flag is always flown to half staff. Following the death of the president, officials and other important persons – as well as recognizing national tragedy – flags will be flown to half the staff periodically.
Remember to fly your flag to half staff on May 15, July 27, September 11 and December 7. These days are to remember Peace Commander, Korea War Veterinarians, Patriots Day and Pearl Harbor Anniversary. On the last Monday in May – Memorial Day – the flag should be flown by half staff until 2 p.m. 12 and then it should be raised immediately.
If your outdoor flag is fixed on a staff and cannot be raised or lowered, there is still a way to celebrate days when the flags fly to half staff. Special bands can be added to the pole to indicate the weight of the day.
Inside of the screen
If you display your flag indoors, there are some ways you can respectfully show stars and stripes. If you hang the flag horizontally on the wall, make sure the stars are on the flag to the right – to the left of the viewers. If you plan to hang the flag vertically, the star section should remain in the same position – in the upper right corner of the flag, to the left.
If you have other flags or pennants in your home that you would like to show with the flag, best practice says no one should hang on the wall above the flag. This includes your college alma mater pennant, a state flag and all other forms of flag or banner. It is also a tradition that no other flag or pennant is hung on the same level to the right of the flag.
Flags can also be folded and displayed in the home. This practice is common for family members who want to display a veteran or official's flag. When you have folded the flag correctly and respectfully, you can display the flag that is folded in a prominent place in the home. You can also place the flag in a case. These cases can be purchased in a craft or framing shop, or you can create your own flag display case .
