About This Article
Putting on a medical mask, first wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer. Then remove a new mask from the box and make sure there are no tears or holes in it. Look for the upper edge of the mask, which is the stiff, flexible edge that can be shaped to fit your nose. Make sure that the colored side of the mask is facing outwards and that the white side is facing you. Then place the mask on your face so that it covers your nose and mouth. If the mask has two ear loops on each side of it, wrap these around the ears to hold the mask in place. If the mask has straps on it, place the top straps over your head and tie a bow to secure them. Then do the same with the bottom straps at the neck. For a mask with band, pull the top band over the head so that it rests on the head. Then pull the lower strap over your head so that it rests on the neck of the neck. Shape the stiff edge at the top of the mask to your nose and pull the mask downward to cover your mouth and chin. Wash your hands with soap and water or detergent only when you are ready to remove your medical mask. Then remove the mask with ear loops, ties or ribbons. Avoid touching the front of the mask as it may be contaminated. Finally throw the used mask in the trash and wash your hands again.
